Surviving FATHOM starts with accepting that hiding is only one part of the loop. Grinsworth climbs walls, crawls through vents, and reacts to footsteps, typed chat, and microphone voice. You need to manage sound before detection, choose one escape tool during pursuit, and regroup before returning to the objective.

The three confirmed base answers have different jobs. Grapple to create distance through the environment. Flash the camera to blind Grinsworth long enough to move. Hide in a locker and become quiet. Using all three in one panic can leave no answer for the next encounter.

Start with the threat, not the item list

Grinsworth is named in the official Radar description, which says the pass can show where he is. The experience description supplies the rest of the reliable public profile: he is awake beneath Fathom Amusement, uses walls and vents, hears several player inputs, and can talk back when spoken to. Exact AI values are not published.

Use a three-stage survival loop

Before detection, slow down at objectives, inspect exits, and keep communication short. Identify a landmark that the whole party can recognize. Do not stand beneath a vent or assume a wall removes every approach. Save the defensive tools for the moment movement changes into pursuit.

During pursuit, choose one answer. Grapple toward a route you have already seen. Flash only when Grinsworth is in front of the camera and the interruption opens an exit. Use a locker after you have enough separation to enter and stop making sound. A random tool use is not a plan.

After escape, do not sprint straight back. Regroup, check remaining items, restate the objective once, and approach from a known direction. This reset is where a team prevents one chase from becoming several consecutive deaths.

Control every confirmed sound source

Footsteps mean movement itself can be a risk. Stop while deciding rather than circling an objective. In a group, avoid four players pacing in different directions. Move deliberately and let the route watcher choose when the team advances.

Typed chat is also named by the developer. Do not paste fake codes or long directions during danger. A short landmark is more useful than a paragraph. If voice is unavailable, agree on a small set of messages before the chase begins.

Microphone speech is the most obvious source, and FATHOM says Grinsworth can respond when spoken to. Treat that interaction as an optional risk, not a required survival step. Muting yourself may reduce one source, but it does not remove footsteps or chat.

The current public description does not publish a hearing radius, volume threshold, memory timer, or device-permission model. Any exact number should be tested in the current build. The practical rule is to remove unnecessary sound and observe the monster’s feedback.

Choose tools by the problem they solve

The grapple changes position. It is strongest when you have already spotted a destination. The official Stronger Grapple pass says it reaches 50% farther and pulls 50% faster, proving that range and pull speed matter, but it does not make every surface a valid target.

The camera flash interrupts Grinsworth. Save it for an angle and distance where the camera can face him. Starter Pack includes two extra camera flashes every run, yet a larger supply still disappears quickly if the team flashes without a retreat.

A locker is environmental cover rather than an inventory item. The developer pairs it with a direct instruction to stay quiet. Entering a locker while continuing to talk or chat ignores the mechanic’s known condition. Exact detection when entering, sharing, or leaving still needs live testing.

Understand the confirmed item and pass pool

Starter Pack officially includes two energy drinks, a medkit, a bandage, two extra camera flashes, and a stronger flashlight every run. Those names confirm a small support inventory, but the product record does not state healing values, movement duration, flashlight brightness, stack limits, or whether supplies can be shared.

Night Vision Goggles help the owner see in the dark and add a faint static overlay. Radar shows Grinsworth plus needed items and objectives. Both are described as working in Story and Chase and being disabled in Nightmare. Shove still works in Nightmare and pushes other players, so it should be treated as a spacing tool with the potential to disrupt teammates.

Infinite Lives and Survivor Bundle reduce some resource pressure. They do not prove that deaths are harmless for Untouchable, whose official condition still requires finishing Chapter 1 without losing a life. Keep purchases separate from badge rules until the live game confirms an interaction.

Adapt the plan for solo or a group

Solo players control every sound source and tool decision. Pause before an interaction, turn around to memorize the exit, and keep one active escape answer unused. Because no teammate can watch another angle, check walls, vents, and the return route yourself.

Groups can assign an objective reader, route watcher, and tool caller. Spread out enough to avoid blocking one another but remain close enough to regroup without shouting directions. If one player is chased, the others should not all cross the same escape line.

Announce limited tools once. “Flash used” is enough. The team needs to know which answer remains, not hear a long description while Grinsworth is nearby.

Recover from the five common failure types

If sound failed, reduce movement and shorten calls. If the route failed, scout a retreat before the next interaction. If tool timing failed, save the flash or grapple for a clearer cue. If spacing failed, separate the team at doors and lockers. If the objective failed, give one person responsibility for reading it.

Change one factor per attempt. Exact numbers are less useful than repeatable observations from the current server. A player who knows why a chase began can adjust; a player who changes every behavior at once cannot tell what helped.

Facts that still need current in-game testing

Hearing range, microphone threshold, chat parsing, sound memory, camera blind duration, grapple-valid surfaces, base grapple distance, locker entry detection, item locations, consumable values, cooldowns, sharing, and mode-specific inventory rules remain update-sensitive. Do not treat an old video or a pass description as a complete stat sheet.

Use the live interface for exact prompts and values. The official facts still give a strong plan: reduce sound, watch vertical approaches, keep a route, choose one escape answer, and reset before the next objective.
